Trenbolone Cycle Guide: Dosage Ranges, Cycle Length, Stacks & PCT Timing

Trenbolone is one of the most potent anabolic steroids in circulation, and it is also one of the least forgiving. A trenbolone cycle is therefore planned differently from a testosterone cycle: the ester chosen sets the injection schedule, the cycle length, and how quickly the compound clears when the cycle ends. This guide explains the cycle structures most often discussed for trenbolone acetate and trenbolone enanthate, the dosage ranges attached to them, how a testosterone base fits in, and when post-cycle therapy (PCT) timing starts to matter.

The short answer: trenbolone cycles are usually short — around 8 weeks for acetate and 10–12 weeks for enanthate — they are almost always run with a testosterone base, and they are considered advanced cycles, not first cycles. There is no approved human medical dose of trenbolone for bodybuilding, so every dosage figure below is a community-reported range, not a recommendation. If you are considering any of this, read our companion pieces first: trenbolone side effects and mitigation and acetate vs enanthate compared.

Oxygen Anabolics publishes these guides as educational information for Canadian readers. Trenbolone is listed under Schedule IV of Canada’s Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and non-medical use carries legal and health risks that no guide can remove.

Trenbolone cycle at a glance

The table below summarises the two esters side by side. The weekly ranges are the figures most often reported in user communities; they are not clinical doses, and individual tolerance varies widely — which is exactly why trenbolone has a reputation for ending cycles early.

Ester Commonly reported weekly range Injection frequency Typical cycle length Clearance before PCT
Trenbolone acetate 200–400 mg per week Every other day About 8 weeks Short — days, not weeks
Trenbolone enanthate 200–400 mg per week Twice per week 10–12 weeks Longer — several weeks

The weekly totals look similar, but the experience of the two cycles is not. Acetate is injected every other day, so blood levels rise and fall more sharply and side effects — night sweats, insomnia, and mood changes — can arrive fast and leave fast. Enanthate is injected twice a week, builds up gradually over the first weeks, and keeps releasing for weeks after the last injection, which is why its cycles run longer and its PCT wait is longer. Our Trenbolone Acetate 100 mg/mL and Trenbolone Enanthate 200 mg/mL listings show the concentrations these ranges are usually discussed around.

Typical cycle length, visualised

The chart below is built from the table above: acetate cycles are typically planned at about 8 weeks, while enanthate cycles run 10–12 weeks (shown here at the 11-week midpoint).

Dosage ranges, by experience

Within the 200–400 mg per week band, the ranges most often discussed break down roughly as follows. These are descriptions of community practice, not targets to aim for, and lower is consistently described as more sustainable than higher with this compound.

Abstract short and long timeline bars illustrating acetate and enanthate cycle lengths

Acetate

First exposure to trenbolone is usually discussed at the low end — around 200 mg per week, split into every-other-day injections (for example, 50–75 mg per injection). Experienced users discussing moderate cycles usually land at 300–400 mg per week. Doses above 400 mg per week are where reports of unmanageable insomnia, sweating, and blood pressure problems concentrate. Because acetate clears quickly, it is the ester most often suggested for a first trenbolone run: if side effects become intolerable, stopping ends exposure within days.

Enanthate

Enanthate is usually discussed at the same 200–400 mg per week band, but split into two weekly injections (for example, 200 mg twice weekly at the top of the range). The slower build means the first two to three weeks feel quieter than acetate, which tempts some users to raise the dose early — a mistake, because blood levels are still climbing. Enanthate suits longer, steadier cycles for users who already know they tolerate trenbolone, not first-time experiments.

The testosterone base

Almost every trenbolone cycle discussed in practice includes testosterone as a base. The reason is physiological: trenbolone suppresses natural testosterone production, and running it without a testosterone base leaves the body with neither its own testosterone nor a replacement androgen. Typical discussed testosterone doses alongside trenbolone are 200–500 mg per week of an enanthate or cypionate ester, with many experienced users keeping testosterone at or below the trenbolone dose to limit oestrogen-related side effects.

Common stacks — and what to avoid stacking

Trenbolone is most often stacked only with testosterone. That pairing — sometimes called a “test and tren” cycle — is the standard structure because it adds one variable at a time and keeps side effects attributable. More ambitious stacks add a third compound, usually an oral such as Dianabol for a bulking phase or Winstrol or Anavar for a cutting phase, but every addition multiplies the side-effect surface: liver strain from orals, lipid damage from trenbolone itself, and blood pressure from both directions.

Two combinations are consistently warned against. The first is trenbolone with another 19-nor compound such as nandrolone (Deca or NPP): both raise prolactin-related risks, and doubling up on that pathway is where prolactin-driven side effects are most often reported. The second is stacking trenbolone as a first cycle, or with multiple new compounds at once — if something goes wrong, nobody, including a doctor, can tell which compound caused it.

How a cycle is usually structured, week by week

An acetate cycle typically runs: weeks 1–8 of trenbolone acetate every other day, with testosterone running the full 8 weeks (sometimes a week or two longer, since testosterone clears more slowly and the base is often tapered rather than stopped abruptly). Bloodwork is usually discussed before the cycle, mid-cycle (around week 4: lipids, liver markers, haematocrit, oestradiol, prolactin), and after PCT. An enanthate cycle stretches the same shape to 10–12 weeks, with the slower onset meaning the strongest effects — and the strongest side effects — arrive in the second half, not the first.

What ends trenbolone cycles early is rarely a lack of results. It is usually sleep: trenbolone-related insomnia and night sweats compound over weeks, degrading training, mood, and blood pressure together. Keeping the dose low and having a pre-agreed stop rule (“if I cannot sleep properly for several nights, I stop”) matters more than any ancillary added mid-cycle.

Numbers worth knowing before you start

32.5% — the pooled estimate of anabolic-steroid users who develop steroid dependence, across 10 studies reviewed by the Endocrine Society (95% confidence interval 25.4–39.7%). Dependence is a recognised outcome of prolonged use, not a failure of willpower.

0.05% — in the largest internet survey cited in the same review, only 1 of 1,955 male steroid users reported starting use before age 15. Trenbolone cycles are adult territory, and adolescent use carries additional risks including premature growth-plate closure.

Both figures come from Pope and colleagues’ 2014 Endocrine Society scientific statement, listed in the References.

PCT timing after trenbolone

PCT timing depends on the ester, because PCT should only begin once the suppressive compounds have largely cleared. For acetate, that gap is short — days — so PCT is usually discussed as starting within the first week after the last injection. For enanthate, the gap is measured in weeks, and starting PCT too early means the PCT drugs are fighting a compound that is still active. The full ester-by-ester timing chart is in our when to start PCT after each ester guide, and the protocol comparison is in Nolvadex vs Clomid for PCT. The post cycle therapy category covers the ancillaries these protocols use.

Harm-reduction checklist

  • Bloodwork before, during, and after: full blood count, lipids, liver enzymes, kidney markers, oestradiol, prolactin, and testosterone. Without a baseline, mid-cycle numbers are uninterpretable.
  • Sterile technique, every injection: new needle and syringe, alcohol-swabbed vial top and skin, no sharing, no reusing. Injection-site infections are one of the most common preventable harms in this space.
  • Blood pressure monitoring: trenbolone commonly raises blood pressure; check it weekly, not when symptoms appear.
  • A stop rule, agreed in advance: severe insomnia, breathing difficulty, dark urine, or a sharp mood change are reasons to stop and see a doctor, not to push through.
  • See a doctor, not a forum, for problems: persistent symptoms after a cycle, including low mood and loss of libido, warrant medical assessment rather than another cycle to “fix” them.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a trenbolone cycle?

Typically about 8 weeks for acetate and 10–12 weeks for enanthate. Shorter is not a failure: acetate’s fast clearance is the reason many users choose it, and extending a cycle that is already causing sleep or blood pressure problems rarely improves the outcome.

Which ester should a first-time trenbolone user choose?

Acetate, at the low end of the reported range. Its fast onset and fast clearance mean both effects and side effects can be judged quickly, and stopping ends exposure within days rather than weeks.

Do I need testosterone with trenbolone?

In practice, yes. Trenbolone suppresses natural testosterone production, so a testosterone base replaces the hormone the body stops making. Running trenbolone without testosterone is consistently described as a recipe for low-testosterone symptoms during the cycle.

When should PCT start after a trenbolone cycle?

It depends on the ester: days after the last acetate injection, but several weeks after the last enanthate injection, because enanthate keeps releasing. Starting PCT while the ester is still active blunts the recovery the PCT is meant to support — see our ester timing guide for the full chart.
